Eco-town terrace design competition
On September 26, 2011
Whitehill Bordon Eco-town terrace design competition
Architect-led teams interested in participating in this two-stage design competition can download the stage 1 brief here: Stage 1 brief Submission deadline for stage 1 is 12pm 7th November 2011.
The purpose of the competition is to find an architect-led design team who can work collaboratively to bring innovative design, economy of means and low energy living to the design of three zero carbon terraced houses.
From the responses to stage 1, a shortlist of five teams will be chosen to work up concept propositions (for which an honorarium of £4,000 will be paid to each team). A first prize of £5,000, additional to the design fee, will be awarded to the winning team.
This design competition will form the next big step in a process of innovation that will inform the quality of housing across the Eco-town. We would like to explore how thought provoking and intelligent design can create beautiful, resilient places where people will want to live now and in the future. Like the Wisenhofseidlung in Stuttgartin the 1920’s, the Case Study houses in Los Angelesin the 1950’s and more recently the evolution of sustainable architecture in Vorarlberg, Austria, the terrace should set out new approaches to meet contemporary design issues in housing.
The Eco-town team, based at East Hampshire District Council, are running the competition and are working in partnership with Radian Housing Group. Radian will be the commissioning client for the winning team.
